Mr. Gagandeep Singh, Co-Founder & Director ,KNAM Marketing
Mr. Gagandeep, a dynamic professional with strong expertise in the paper, packaging, and printing industry. As Co-Founder of KNAM Marketing, he focuses on delivering innovative and customer-driven solutions across the sector.

Paper Desk : Paper consumption continues to rise globally. How do you view this trend in relation to sustainability?

Gagandeep Singh : Paper is deeply embedded in our daily lives—from books and packaging to communication. With global production nearing 420 million tonnes annually and projections showing a rise to 476 million tonnes by 2032, sustainability becomes paramount. Recycling isn’t optional anymore—it’s essential for responsible resource management and environmental preservation..

PD : Why is paper recycling such a crucial part of the sustainability discussion?

GS : To produce just one tonne of paper, 17 to 24 mature trees are cut down. These trees are vital carbon sinks—a single mature tree can absorb up to 1 tonne of CO₂ over its lifetime. So, recycling even one tonne of paper actively helps reduce deforestation, preserve biodiversity, and combat climate change.

PD : What is KNAM Marketing’s role in promoting sustainable recycling in the paper industry?

GS : The core business of KNAM Marketing is trading/exporting recycle paper. Although, it is a complicated process, but over the years, we have simplified the process and now catering to developed markets like Middle East, South East Asia and Europe. KNAM is also humbled with the level of support received from the Government, clients and other stakeholders.

PD : Globally, how is the recycling rate for paper and cardboard evolving?

GS : The global recycling rate for paper stands between 65– 69%, and for cardboard, an impressive 71–76%. Europe, for example, is targeting a 76% recycling rate by 2030. However, countries like India still lag, with a recovery rate of only 25–28%, despite being the world’s fourth-largest paper importer/exporter, this gap shows the immense potential for improvement.

PD : Are there any noticeable shifts in the paper industry’s approach to sustainability?

GS : Absolutely. The industry is focusing on three main areas :

  • Increased Recycling to reduce environmental impact
  • Sustainable Practices, including use of renewable energy and recycled inputs
  • Technological Advancements to improve recycling efficiency and product quality.

PD : Beyond forest impact, how does the paper industry affect water resources?

GS : Paper manufacturing is extremely water-intensive. Around 85% of water used in the industry is for processing, leading to large volumes of wastewater. Without proper treatment, this can cause severe environmental damage examples like pollution in the Yamuna River make this concern very real.

PD : What is the broader market outlook for the pulp and paper industry?

GS : The global pulp and paper manufacturing market is projected to reach around USD 391.39 billion by 2032. With this growth, we must scale recycling efforts, embrace green policies, and invest in innovation to ensure long-term sustainability.

PD : Finally, how is KNAM Marketing contributing to the global recycling movement?

GS : We are proud exporters of recycled paper materials to the UAE Middle East, Africa, including Egypt and Southeast Asia. Our efforts reflect a strong commitment to the circular economy and sustainable industrial development. Recycling isn’t just a business choice for us it’s a mission toward a cleaner, more resilient planet.
