Hanon Systems Unveils White Paper on Next-Generation PFAS-Free Natural Refrigerant Technologies

Hanon Systems, a global leader in automotive thermal management solutions and a member of the Hankook & Company Group, has released a comprehensive white paper outlining its advancements in next-generation PFAS-free natural refrigerant technologies. The publication reflects the company’s commitment to developing environmentally sustainable thermal management solutions for the future of mobility.

The white paper examines the environmental concerns associated with conventional fluorinated refrigerants, particularly those that can degrade into trifluoroacetic acid (TFA), a persistent environmental contaminant. As regulatory scrutiny intensifies and the automotive industry accelerates its sustainability initiatives, Hanon Systems highlights natural refrigerants as a practical and long-term alternative.

Central to the company’s strategy are refrigerant technologies based on carbon dioxide (R744) and propane (R290). Hanon Systems has already achieved significant commercial success with its R744-based thermal management solutions, including electric compressors, refrigerant valves, accumulator/internal heat exchangers, and gas coolers. These technologies have been deployed in more than one million vehicles worldwide, demonstrating their reliability and commercial viability.

In addition to its established R744 portfolio, the company is accelerating the development of R290-based solutions to provide a PFAS-free option for next-generation electric and hybrid vehicles. By leveraging natural refrigerants, Hanon Systems aims to help automakers meet evolving environmental regulations while improving the sustainability of automotive thermal systems.
