AFT Launches MaxBarrier for Bale Wire Removal and Refiner Protection

Helsinki, Finland – May 29, 2026 – Aikawa Fiber Technologies (AFT) is pleased to announce the launch of MaxBarrier, AFT’s new bale wire removal and protection screen designed for multiple fiber processing applications.

Developed for systems utilizing bale pulpers and refining, MaxBarrier provides a robust physical barrier that removes heavy debris and contaminants before they can reach sensitive downstream equipment such as refiners. The system is designed to improve runnability, extend equipment lifetime, and reduce maintenance requirements in demanding fiber applications.

The MaxBarrier operating principle is based on a rotating screen cylinder. Heavy debris is separated from the pulp suspension through an integrated junk trap. Clean pulp passes through the screen perforations to the accept side, resulting in virtually no fiber loss.

Key Benefits of MaxBarrier:

  • Absolute protection through a robust physical barrier
  • Improved runnability and extended equipment lifetime
  • Very low power consumption
  • Optimized performance through application-specific cylinder selection

“MaxBarrier strengthens AFT’s separation technology offering by helping mills improve process reliability and protect critical downstream equipment,” said Kimmo Nurminen, Product Director, AFT.

With more than a century of experience in papermaking technologies, AFT continues to develop solutions that help mills improve productivity, sustainability, and process reliability.
