Mondelēz Shifts 115 Cookie Products from PET to FSC-Certified Paper Trays

Mondelēz International has completed the transition from rigid PET trays to FSC-certified paper trays across 115 cookie products in its European portfolio, expanding the use of paper-based packaging across eight brands and more than 25 markets.

The packaging conversion is expected to eliminate approximately 2,200 tonnes of virgin plastic annually, representing an estimated 80% reduction in virgin plastic used for the affected trays.

The transition involved redesigning multiple aspects of the packaging system, including tray design and logistics, to enable the large-scale adoption of paper-based alternatives.

The move highlights the growing adoption of paper packaging solutions in the food and consumer goods sectors, as brands explore alternatives to rigid plastic packaging while maintaining the functional requirements of packaged products.
