Général Emballage to Build High-Capacity RCCM Mill in Algeria

Algeria’s leading corrugated packaging producer, Général Emballage, has announced plans to establish a new recycled containerboard (RCCM) mill in Naâma. The facility will feature a production capacity of 350,000 tonnes per year, with a machine web width of 7.5 meters and a design speed of 1,200 meters per minute.

The project has been awarded to ANDRITZ, which will supply what is set to be the widest and highest-capacity paper machine in Africa. The mill is scheduled to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2028. The order value is estimated to be in the low three-digit million euro range.

This investment marks a significant milestone for Général Emballage, as it represents the company’s first venture into paper production. The new line will manufacture testliner and fluting grades, strengthening its position in the corrugated packaging value chain.

ANDRITZ’s scope of supply includes the complete production line, covering stock preparation systems, winder, automation and digitalization solutions, as well as spare parts and long-term service agreements. The facility will be designed with a strong focus on sustainability, aiming for minimal fresh water usage, high energy efficiency, and enhanced operational reliability through advanced automation technologies.

Ramdane Batouche, Chairman and CEO of Général Emballage, emphasized the importance of the project, noting that the company carefully selected its partner based on both technological expertise and the ability to address specific operational needs. He expressed confidence in building a long-term partnership with ANDRITZ.

Gerald Steiner, Senior Vice President of Paper & Tissue at ANDRITZ, highlighted that the project reinforces the company’s commitment to delivering sustainable and comprehensive paper production solutions to the global industry.

Général Emballage is widely recognized as Algeria’s leading corrugated board manufacturer, producing a range of customized packaging solutions, including single-wall and double-wall corrugated sheets in various flute profiles. The company also offers high-quality post-printing services with up to six-color capability and specialized finishing options.
