Valmet has secured a contract from Sappi Southern Africa to deliver a comprehensive Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) package for the replacement of critical recovery boiler components at the Saiccor Mill in South Africa.

The project is aimed at enhancing the mill’s operational safety, improving reliability, and reducing the risk of unplanned downtime by upgrading key boiler parts. The modernization will restore the structural integrity and thermal performance of essential components, helping ensure the continued safe and efficient operation of the facility.

Jan Burger, Engineering Manager at Sappi Saiccor, stated that the project will address important operational challenges while supporting long-term reliability and safety. He highlighted Valmet’s extensive knowledge of the site and proven expertise in executing complex shutdown projects as key factors in ensuring successful project delivery.

Valmet emphasized that the project reflects its lifecycle service approach, which supports customers throughout the entire lifespan of their assets, from project planning and installation to maintenance, upgrades, and performance optimization. The company noted that its long-standing relationship with Sappi and previous experience at the Saiccor Mill provide valuable site-specific expertise for efficient planning and execution during critical outages.

According to Amit Roy, Senior Sales Manager, Pulp, Energy and Circularity Services at Valmet, the company’s skilled workforce, specialized tools, and deep understanding of the mill’s operations will help ensure safe and reliable pressure-part replacement while reinforcing Valmet’s position as a trusted partner for recovery boiler and energy solutions.
