Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL) has entered a new phase of growth with the inauguration of South India’s first integrated tissue paper manufacturing facility , a landmark project that expands the company’s footprint beyond printing and writing papers into the fast-growing tissue products market.
The new 100 tonnes per day (TPD) Tissue Paper Production Facility, established at TNPL Unit-II, Kagitha Nagar, Mondipatti, Tiruchirappalli District, was inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru C. Joseph Vijay , during the Vettri Tamil Nadu Investment Conclave 2026 held in Chennai.
Developed with an investment of ₹350 crore , the facility represents one of the most significant capacity additions in South India’s tissue paper industry. The project reflects TNPL’s long-term strategy of diversifying into value-added paper products while leveraging its integrated pulp manufacturing capabilities and sustainable production model.
A Strategic Expansion into Value-Added Products
The new production line is designed to manufacture a wide range of premium tissue grades between 13 GSM and 40 GSM , catering to household, hospitality, healthcare and institutional applications. By utilizing high-quality in-house hardwood pulp, TNPL aims to ensure consistent product quality while maintaining greater control over raw material sourcing and production efficiency.
Industry observers view this expansion as a timely move, as India’s tissue paper consumption continues to rise with growing urbanization, improved hygiene awareness and increasing demand from the food service and healthcare sectors.
Introducing LUMEA
The facility also marks the launch of LUMEA , TNPL’s new tissue paper brand that brings the company’s decades of manufacturing expertise into the everyday tissue products category. The brand is expected to serve both consumer and commercial markets with products emphasizing softness, strength and sustainability.
Strengthening Tamil Nadu’s Paper Industry
Beyond adding new manufacturing capacity, the project reinforces Tamil Nadu’s position as an emerging hub for advanced paper and pulp manufacturing. The investment is expected to generate employment opportunities, support ancillary industries and contribute to the state’s broader industrial growth objectives.
For TNPL, the tissue paper venture is more than a capacity expansion—it represents a strategic transformation toward higher-value products and diversified revenue streams. As the company builds on its legacy of sustainable paper manufacturing, the new facility opens the door to stronger participation in one of the fastest-growing segments of the paper industry.
With this milestone, TNPL begins a new chapter—combining innovation, sustainability and integrated manufacturing to shape the future of tissue paper production in India.
